David Stratton is a Sydney-based professional musician, educator and director of Ormandy & Stratton Pty. Ltd., a company that has provided production, direction, supervision, consultancy, arranging and composing services and event coordination to the music industry for over 30 years.
A highly accomplished and versatile bassist, David regularly plays professional gigs on acoustic, four, five, six-string or fretless electric bass (and in addition, tuba and euphonium). David’s diverse performance experience has ranged from the recording studio to the live television set, and from the orchestral pit to the stage of the Sydney Opera House. Throughout his career David has regularly worked as a leading session musician for both Australian and international performing artists.
Behind the scenes, David has composed music, written arrangements and prepared charts for gigs of all sizes and he has provided musical direction on a number of professional productions, including as assistant musical director for SOCOG’s Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
A passionate educator, David has held teaching positions in secondary and tertiary institutions and has coordinated the direction of music education and performance programs, as well as working with private students.
David was awarded a prestigious Churchill Fellowship in 2000, travelling through the United Kingdom and United States to research contemporary popular music programmes. Throughout his career David has travelled to perform in the United Kingdom, France, Africa, China, Japan and New Zealand.
